$SOXX fell nearly 12% last week, including more than 4% Friday, while the Nasdaq lost approximately 4.5%, the S&P 500 declined 2% and the Dow gained 0.7%. That dispersion identifies a concentrated reassessment of technology valuations rather than uniform liquidation across equities. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, down approximately 16% from its early October peak, captures the pressure on assumptions about sustained AI spending. The pricing question is how much future profitability remains embedded after the drawdown, not how far prices have fallen.

$TSM reported third quarter revenue of $46.72 billion, up approximately 41% in dollar terms, and guided fourth quarter revenue to $52.3 billion to $54.3 billion. Those figures establish strong current demand, but the sector selloff continued. Supplier revenue measures infrastructure purchases; it does not establish the returns earned by the buyers financing those purchases. Treating strong chip sales as sufficient evidence for attractive valuations conflates two different profit pools.

$ASML reported third quarter revenue of €11.7 billion and said planned delivery capacity for 2027 and 2028 would fall short of customer demand. Capacity constraints support equipment demand while leaving the economics of downstream computing investment unresolved. The valuation tension sits between visible orders today and the cash returns needed to sustain subsequent investment cycles. For PMs, backlog strength and capital efficiency require separate underwriting.

$CRWV exposes the financing mechanism behind that distinction, with approximately $50 billion in debt and yields on some bonds reaching approximately 15% amid selling in both equity and credit. Higher financing costs raise the return threshold for infrastructure funded with debt. Competition and falling computing prices then pressure the revenue available to meet that threshold. Goldman Sachs estimates combined capital expenditure by five AI infrastructure giants at approximately $1.2 trillion next year, making funding costs and utilization central valuation inputs.

$SOXX also reflects a global repricing of semiconductor exposure: South Korea fell 7.6% Thursday, Samsung Electronics lost approximately 9.5% and SK Hynix declined approximately 11.1%. The Kospi recovered 2.1% Friday without reversing the preceding losses. CNN Fear & Greed fell to 18 from 46, while the VIX rose approximately 35% over the week. Extreme fear measures stressed sentiment; it does not establish that expected earnings or required returns have reached a clearing level.

$NVDA faces renewed scrutiny of computing intensity after DeepSeek released V4.1-Flash-1017, reporting faster execution, lower usage costs and a DeepSWE v1.1 score increase from 74.2 to 77. These are company reported results for an update to an existing model, without complete independent verification. Efficiency reduces computing requirements per task, while lower costs expand the range of economically viable applications. The misreading is to equate lower resource use per task directly with lower aggregate chip demand, without assessing the response in usage.

$META reports Wednesday, placing advertising growth alongside the economics of expanding data center investment. Revenue growth alone does not establish that incremental infrastructure spending earns an adequate return. The relevant comparison is the additional cash generated against the additional capital committed, particularly as spending increases toward 2027. Positioning around earnings therefore requires a view on investment productivity as well as operating momentum.

$TSLA reports Wednesday with electric vehicle cash generation funding investment in robotics, autonomous driving and AI. The valuation issue is the relationship between cash produced by existing operations and capital absorbed by projects without significant current profits. Combining those activities into a single growth narrative obscures the funding burden. The report provides a test of how much development spending the operating business supports.

$NFLX anchors the supplied Tuesday reporting calendar alongside SpaceX, GE Aerospace, General Motors, RTX and United Airlines. For SpaceX, the stated focus is growth, margins and capital expenditure following its listing, including its space, communications and computing infrastructure exposure. Wednesday also brings IBM, while Thursday includes Procter & Gamble, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell, Spotify and Western Digital, followed by American Express Friday. The cross-sector comparison is whether earnings resilience extends beyond the businesses directly supported by AI investment.

$LRCX and $TXN report Wednesday, creating a useful comparison between semiconductor equipment spending and demand across industrial, automotive and electronics markets. Strong equipment demand alongside weak traditional end markets would describe a concentrated investment cycle rather than broad semiconductor recovery. Nvidia GTC in Berlin, with Jensen Huang scheduled to speak Wednesday, adds information on accelerators, infrastructure and computing costs. The portfolio distinction is between exposure to capital expenditure and exposure to diversified end demand.

$SOXX sits at the intersection of earnings revisions, financing conditions and interest rate expectations as housing data, initial unemployment claims and University of Michigan consumer sentiment arrive. With the Federal Reserve entering its blackout period before the October 27 to 28 decision, those releases carry more weight in assessments of the rate path. The forward-looking pattern to track is whether supplier growth translates into customer cash returns, whether credit stress remains concentrated and whether demand broadens beyond AI. Those relationships provide a valuation framework without treating strong earnings as automatic upside or extreme fear as an automatic entry point.
