Today’s options flow reveals a fascinating divergence in sentiment across several big-name tickers, with institutional investors—aka the "whales"—quietly reshaping expectations through significant and unusual options activity.
Starting with $ABNB, the options tape was alive with mixed bets, though the bias tilted bearish. Among nine notable trades, roughly 55% were bearish, and the ratio of puts ($136K) to calls ($183K) reinforces cautious sentiment among big players. The volume and open interest metrics suggest hedging ahead of potential downside catalysts.
$APO saw repeat action, as large-scale investors took a decidedly bearish position in the options market. While the exact trigger remains unclear, the scale of the positioning indicates that informed players may be preparing for volatility or negative news flow in Apollo Global Management's near-term outlook.
$AXP also drew unusual attention, with aggressive traders taking positions that imply an expectation for upcoming price movement. While sentiment was somewhat muted in the breakdown, historical behavior suggests that this type of activity in American Express often precedes key announcements or macro-related moves affecting consumer finance.
$DHR showed more bullish undertones. Among the eight large trades flagged, 75% were call-heavy, totaling over $242K compared to just $108K in puts. That’s a meaningful tilt, especially when you consider Danaher’s recent consolidation and technical setup—traders may be positioning for a breakout.
For $DIS, things were murkier. Whale behavior leaned bearish, with a total of $345K in put exposure versus $342K in calls. This nearly even split, with a slight downside bias, suggests traders are hedging against upcoming earnings or corporate developments amid ongoing macro uncertainty for Disney.
$EAT had one of the most surprising sessions. Options flow was heavily bullish, with 72% of activity favoring calls—totaling over $2.1M. Brinker International seems to have caught the eye of the big fish, and this kind of action typically implies insider confidence or speculation on a major upside catalyst.
In contrast, $F Ford was dead even in terms of sentiment, with a 50/50 split between calls and puts. However, the notional value skewed slightly bullish—$359K in calls versus $215K in puts—possibly reflecting optimism over upcoming EV news or macro shifts in the auto sector.
Finally, $IONQ stood out with strong bearish activity. Multiple large-scale trades, captured via Benzinga’s scanner, suggest that insiders or institutions are bracing for a sharp move down in the near term. This repeated signal implies that sentiment around IonQ’s valuation may be shifting, potentially due to broader AI or tech sector themes.
