FTX Trading Ltd., commonly known as FTX (short for "Futures Exchange"), was a company that formerly operated a cryptocurrency exchange and crypto hedge fund. The exchange was founded in 2019 by Sam Bankman-Fried, at its peak was one of the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world.
It was also one of the hottest investment in the world. In 2020 and 2021, everyone was rushing in to invest in this fast growing exchange. FTX CEO was becoming the next Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg. Everyone was talking about is brilliance and innovative mind.
Tom Brady, Seinfeld creator Larry David, Shaquille O’Neal, Robert Kraft, Gisele Bündchen, Kevin O'Leary, Anthony Scaramucci, Peter Thiel. This list of people is an impressive group of highly achievers, in sport, business, entertainment and finance. They also all invest in FTX. They all believe in this company. They also all lost all their investment when FTX collapsed in early November 2022.
But one important name is missing from this list - Taylor Swift. Yes, the famous and highly successful American singer-songwriter, was also offered to invest in FTX. At the time, it's almost looks like a "sure win"
Especially when the company raised 1.8 Billion, Yes Billions from leading funds and companies such as: Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Tiger Global Management, New Enterprise Associates' institutional Venture Partners, Steadview Capital, SoftBank, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, Paradigm and Sequoia Capital.
It is very impressive list, you can bet that does funds, done their homework, they check the company business model, they understood the company, they met the CEO.
I bet most of the celebrities didn’t have an answer for that question too, buy they invest anyway. But Taylor was smart, she apparently, didn't understood the business and choose not to invest.
That's an important lesson, if don’t understand the company don’t invest.
