Is it finally the time to buy the bottom in Alibaba stock?

Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA) is one of the world's largest e-commerce companies, with a market capitalization of over $250 billion. Founded in 1999 by Jack Ma, Alibaba has become a dominant player in the Chinese e- commerce market, with businesses ranging from online marketplaces to cloud computing and digital entertainment.

Despite its success, Alibaba's stock has experienced a bumpy ride in recent years. The company has faced a series of challenges, including increased regulatory scrutiny, trade tensions between the US and China, and concerns over corporate governance. These factors have all contributed to a decline in Alibaba's stock price since its peak in 2018. In its peak the stock was traded in around $300 no it's at $94.

One of the biggest challenges facing Alibaba is increased regulatory scrutiny from the Chinese government. In November 2020, Chinese regulators suspended the IPO of Alibaba's fintech subsidiary, Ant Group, just days before it was set to go public. The move was seen as a sign of Beijing's growing concerns over the power of tech giants like Alibaba and their potential impact on financial stability. This regulatory pressure has also led to an antitrust investigation into Alibaba, which resulted in a record $2.8 billion fine in April 2021.

Despite these challenges, there are still reasons to be optimistic about Alibaba's future. Today Alibaba jumped 6% in premarket trading Thursday after reporting better-than- expected earnings and revenue.

Fiscal Q3 profit rose 5% to $2.79 a share, well above the $2.37 consensus. Revenue fell 6% to $35.92 billion, slightly ahead of the $35.76 billion consensus.

“We delivered a solid quarter despite softer demand, supply chain and logistics disruptions due to impact of changes in COVID-19 measures,” Chief Executive Daniel Zhang said in a release. Alibaba anticipates “continued recovery in consumer sentiment and economic activity,” he added.

So is this is the time to buy the stock?

Well, we believe that there are still great potential in the company's e-commerce business Alibaba's cloud computing business is also a bright spot. Additionally, the company has a strong balance sheet.

For those willing to take on that risk, Alibaba may represent an opportunity to invest in a dominant player in the fast-growing Chinese e-commerce market.
