Electronic Arts, one of the world's leading video game manufacturers, fell by 12% in trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange last week. The company is responsible, among other things, for the successful games FIFA, NBA Live, The Sims, Need for Speed, Harry Potter and others.
EA was founded in May 1982, by a former employee of Apple, and today it owns the world's largest video game development studio, employing over 2,000 people. Since the beginning of the year, EA's stock has recorded declines of over 7%. This, in contrast to the general trend on Wall Street, with an emphasis on the technology sector: Nasdaq rose by 16%, S&P 500 by 8% and Dow Jones by 2.4%.
The recent declines are associated, among other things, with the financial reports published by the company, in which it reported a slowdown in all parameters, significantly lower than expected revenue forecasts in the first quarter of 2023, and an increase in competition from the video game company Activision (producer of Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Doom 3 and other games).
In addition, the company announced the postponement of the distribution of the new game from the Star Wars series (Star Wars - Jedi Survivors), from March 17 to April 28, alongside the cessation of development of the Battlefield and Apex games. All of these, with an emphasis on the discontinuation of the distribution of the two popular games and the postponement of the distribution of the new game, apparently influenced the investors and, as mentioned, led the company's stock to sharp declines.
